The Southern African Killifish Society was founded in 2001 in an effort to facilitate
better communication between the killifish keepers in Southern Africa.
Killifish are not the most popular fish on the South African market. To be
honest they don't feature at all. The South African aquarium fish industry is
focused on bread and butter fish. Exotics like killifish are yet to make their
impact. Inspite of this 'unpopularity' there are a good number of killifish fans
scattered around the country of South African and Zimbabwe.
The geographical isolation and lack of aquarium fish societies means that
many of the countrie's killifish fanatics are still MIA. For instance, there is
a guy in Durban breeding Pseudoepiplatys annulatus. We know this as the
news of locally bred annulatus has filtered down to the Cape (we are yet
to see any though) via Dirk Bellstedts fish food business. Alas there is still
no idea who this guy is... It is hoped that as this society grows we will be
able to find all these people and bring them all under one umbrella where we can
trade fish and information freely.
A partnership has been formed between SAKS and its Australian and New Zealand
counterparts: NAKA and NZKA.
We have formed the "Southern Hemisphere Killifish Collective" so to
speak. We hope to bring all Southern Hemisphere killifish keepers under this
umbrella. This alliance serves to foster communication between the parties and
try to broaden our information base. We are of course looking for more Southern
Hemisphere partners. If you are interested to know what is going on in the
Southern Hemisphere join AUNZZA!
Please explore the site and forward the link to any interested people you may
know of---especially if they are South African!
