Cichlid Adventures

I don't keep a large variety of cichlids and tend to concentrate on the smaller, cuter, more interesting stuff. My all time favorites are angelfish and I always had a pair or two lying around. Kribs are another favourite. It is wonderful watching kribs herd their little cloud of fry around the tank while beating the rainbows and Congo tetras into a corner. The fry rarely lasted longer than a week. I've watched them and have learnt a few things about the Kribs and their social dynamics. The krib info can be found by clicking here!

I had some South American dwarfs at one stage (A. borrelli and Microgeophagus ramerezi) but that never came to anything. Both spawned regularly but the fry never made it. (Lack of attention on my part.)

I love Tanganyika cichlids. They are just so damn cute, interesting and elegant---and beautiful! I have the Back to Nature Guide to Tanganyika Cichlids written by Ad Konings and published by Fohrman Aquaristik AB, Jonsered, Sweden in 1996. His other book, Tanganyika Cichlids in their Natural Habitat from Cichlid Press, is excellent! I hear there is a new book out… I've kept various species from easy brevis to difficult Tropheus. I've bred most of the species I have kept without too much effort in spite of my soft water. I've never found Tanganyika cichlids to be very demanding or sensitive to pH or hardness as long as the water quality was high.
