Gabon is home to many of our favourite and most sought after killifish. For the last few years Mr. Rudolf Koubek has been taking trips to Gabon with the purpose of collecting many of these prized gems. Mr. Koubek has gone about in an effort to collect from the Terra Typica locations based on the book by Radda and Pürzl1.
Mr. Koubek has collected all the Diapteron species from Gabon and had been able to obtain Diapteron seegersi (see figurehead) from the Republic of Congo with the aid of locals. Mr. Koubek has in his collection Diapteron abacinum, cyanostictum, fulgens, two strains of georgiae and seegersi.
Mr. Koubek has prepared some articles on the breeding and maintenance of Diapteron and other cool water Aphyosemions of Gabon and Congo that he is still to get to me. They should be uploaded soon so check back soon.
If you are interested in obtaining any of the fish Mr. Koubek breeds you can view his fish list here. All fish are spawned in large groups of no less than 12 individuals. There is no inbreeding of any kind. His stock are of the highest natural genetic quality.
For more information on Diapteron you can visit the page of Tim Addis or Bill Shenefeldt. You may also want to visit the Southern African Killifish Society.
Pictures of some of Mr. Koubek's fish are available here.
